FROM RECORDED THREATS TO REPORTED PHYSICAL VIOLENCE
On Wednesday, September 9, AFNM’s sidewalk team was conducting peaceful outreach outside Southwestern Women’s Options when a woman approached the team and declared on video:
I've decided I'm okay with going to prison today.”
During the confrontation, she also stated:
From now on, every chance I get to be here, I'm gonna.” You guys make me sick. You guys make me sick to my f***ing stomach. You make me so sick.” All you guys are doing are wasting your time.”
According to AFNM witnesses, the woman, now identified as Randi Chavez in an official Albuquerque Police Department notification, threatened to hurt a sidewalk volunteer if she spoke to another woman.
When the AFNM volunteer continued speaking to a mother entering Southwestern Women's Options, AFNM reports that Chavez physically attacked her, striking her multiple times. The initial physical blows were not captured on video. However, four witnesses provided statements to Albuquerque Police following the altercation. Following that confrontation, Chavez left the area. She later returned wearing different clothing. According to AFNM, Chavez threw three sodas toward the sidewalk team. Video footage captures the confrontation, including a full can of soda striking a second team member, before Chavez departed in her truck. The assaulted AFNM team member contacted Albuquerque Police, who responded and investigated the incident. VIDEO APPROACHES 100,000 VIEWS AS POLICE ACTION IS CONFIRMED
